ABOUT

I believe that the best way of understanding what happened on any battlefield is to have a good and well informed knowledge of the soldiers, along with an intimate feel for the ground.

I have a specific interest in The Great War, particularly the Western Front. From a very young age I remember finding history in general fascinating and over the years I have built up a substantial collection of books on military history along with medals and militaria.

I served with the Royal Marines for 7 years. During my time In the forces I acquired my own personal experience of the military and how it operates. It was during this period of my life in the early 1990`s that I began to tour the battlefields of the Western Front. I am member of the Western Front Association, the Friends of Lochnagar, the European Tour Operators Association and I'm also an associate member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides.

I now live on the Somme with my partner Michelle. We run two self-catering accommodations, Chavasse Farm and Snowden House, along with my brother Jonathan. On an almost daily basis I advise my guests on where to go and what to discover. I have been guiding since 2009, a job which has allowed me to meet some great people and share with them my expanding knowledge. I wish I had started to guide years ago.

When I'm not 'working' I love to get out and about running and cycling. Endurance sports have always interested me, I don't know why but the challenge of an Ironman triathlon or an ultra marathon give me a real buzz.

I can occasionally be found walking around the battlefields with my trusty camera bag capturing what I'd like to believe are some nice photos.
